Family Promise

Family Promise is a non-profit organization committed to helping low income families achieve lasting independence. Their long term vision is to have a nation in which every family has a home, a livelihood and a chance to build a better future. Sukkat Shalom and First Presbyterian Church have partnered to share the responsibility of meeting those needs.

The Night Ministry

The night ministry connects with Chicago’s most vulnerable by providing basic supplies, free health care, housing and self-care resources. Rabbi Menahem Cohen will join our families to tell us more about the work of the ministry and we will make lunches to feed the hungry. Families will provide food, such as bread, cheese, bologna, chips, apples, granola bars and assist in assembling the lunches. More information and a sign-up sheet will be distributed as we get closer to the date.

Share the Harvest

Annual Thanksgiving Collection
Our congregation will be sponsoring families in need (identified through local agencies) during the Thanksgiving holiday. The STH committee will collect your baskets, bags or gift cards prior to the Family School before Thanksgiving. Your generous donations will be distributed to families in need. Questions? A Just Harvest

A Just Harvest’s mission is to reduce poverty and hunger in Rogers Park and the greater Chicago area. Not only does Just Harvest feed hungry people, but they feed the common hunger for hope, fellowship and community.

8-10 people per time, 11 years and older are needed on the fourth Sunday of each month beginning at 4:15 pm, to prepare and serve dinner at the
Community Kitchen, 7649 N. Paulina St. Chicago, IL. 60626

Maot Chitim

Maot Chitim refers to the custom of gathering wheat and providing the poor with matzah to observe Passover. This mitzvah has been expanded to provide food for families in need on Passover as well as Rosh Hashanah.

Congregation Sukkat Shalom provides food to our building in DesPlaines.
